Important advice for Young Enterprise Companies Trading at Wembley Sunday Market 3 March 2013
Arrival
Register with the management office on the market site, by car park zone 3G.
Site management
The market is owned by Wendy Fair Markets, who are hosting Young Enterprise Companies there free of charge. Please be courteous and grateful to all the Wendy Fair staff. The site manager is Sally Ward who is looking forward to seeing the Young Enterprise Companies there. All Wendy Fair Staff wear uniform, so they can easily be identified. As well as the office staff on site (grey portacabin by car park zone 3G), security staff patrol around the site
Emergency
Any problems on site, please contact the Wendy Fair management office, either by going to it or by phoning 01895 632221. Tell them your pitch number (which you’ll be given when you arrive) and the nature of the problem. Security staff will come to you. (Nick 07768 812233)
Young Enterprise adult attendance
Young Enterprise is setting up a rota of adult attendance on site throughout the day, whom you can also contact in case of difficulties. They will make themselves known to you when you arrive. [ Nick (Wembley Markets) - 07768 812233]
What to wear
Be warm: sensible shoes/boots; warm coat/jacket; gloves; hat
Shiftwork and staffing
It’s a long day’s trading, from arriving at site by 8.00 to closing down and clearing up by 4.30. Arrange a rota for 2 or 3 shifts of company members. You need at least 2 people on duty at any time, preferably three so that customer serving, food/loo visits, breaks, watching the stock, can all happen simultaneously
Car parking
Apart from free site access for loading/unloading at the start of the day, other cars will need to use the well-signed adjacent Wembley site public car park (£2 in 2010).
Food and drink
Plenty of stalls on site with a wide range of food and drink (including veggie). Or you can bring your own sandwiches. A flask of hot drink might also be a good idea, though there’s plenty of stalls selling them too
Loos
Porta-loos on site by the management office. (Tried in previous years and found as “essential but basic”)
Cash management
Take care and be street-wise. This is a lively market. Keep your cash secure eg in bumbags. Don’t flash it. Don’t count it or show it in view of people. Store it in different pockets and with more than one person. Don’t make it obvious where the cash is.
Stock management
Have plenty of goods on display for a good show. Make sure you have enough stock to last the day and to be appealing. But do keep a good eye on it to minimise the chance of pilfering.
Points to bear in mind....
![]() |
It's likely to be cold and even wet in early March, so be prepared with warm/weatherproof clothing and (a MUST) warm footwear. Layered clothing is best - warmer and you can "strip off" if the sun shines. |
![]() |
You will need to have drinks and maybe food available, but please don't eat at the stand. |
![]() |
Your trade stand has to be there all day so arrange a rota for your sales people. |
![]() |
If trade goes well, do you have enough stock? Can you arrange for additional supplies during the day? |
![]() |
Wembley Market is very busy, security of your stock needs consideration. |
![]() |
Make a note of emergency telephone numbers. |
Please email secretary@harrowye.org with your company name, area and school and probable sales products if you would like to be at the market. If we have more than 20 companies we will have a draw for places.
There will be no fee for the places but there will be a £10 charge if you book and do not appear and trade on the day.
